Bitna Lee
Bitna Lee, a pianist acclaimed for her profound touch and distinctive artistry, has established a brilliant career spanning the prestigious stages of Europe and the United States. Her exceptional musical gift was recognized early in her youth when, as a seventh grader, she was discovered by the world-renowned pianist Ik-choo Moon, the then-Chair of the Department of Music at UCLA, which led to her move to the United States. After winning and placing in numerous prestigious competitions, including the International Bach Competition, she made her brilliant American debut at the age of 14, performing Mozart Piano Concerto No. 20 with the Angeles Orchestra. This successful debut performance was broadcast live on a local LA radio station, garnering immense attention from the American musical community.
Upon returning to South Korea, she entered the School of Music at the Korea National University of Arts (KNUA) Studied with Choong-mo Kang and Kyung-sook Lee, titans of the Korean piano world. To leap onto the international stage, she later moved to Austria to pursue her advanced studies, graduating with a major in Pianoforte Performance from the prestigious University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (MDW). During her years in Vienna, she immersed herself in the essence of authentic European classical traditions, studying under Alexander Jenner, the former jury chair of the International Tchaikovsky Competition, and Stefan Vladar, a world-renowned pianist, conductor, and master of Beethoven interpretation.
Notably, during her tenure at the MDW, she received a special invitation from the Vienna International Competition to perform the opening concert—marking a historic milestone as the first Korean artist to do so—which concurrently served as her spectacular Vienna debut recital. This milestone opened doors to numerous prominent stages, including a guest performance hosted by the Korean-Austrian Embassy, a charity concert for drug prevention, and various recitals across Europe, including Switzerland and Bologna, Italy.
Following her European career, she returned to South Korea, where she balanced an active performance schedule with a dedicated commitment to education. She earned widespread recognition for her exceptional pedagogy, successfully guiding numerous students into elite institutions such as the Yewon School, Seoul Arts High School, and leading music universities. Currently, she has relocated her artistic base back to the United States. Centered in Oakton, Virginia, she continues to cultivate a distinguished career as a mature concert artist and influential educator through advanced teaching, judging prestigious music competitions, and maintaining an active concert presence.
